Context
We are Sustaain, a data-for-sustainability startup building a sustainability intelligence platform for complex supply chains such as coffee and cocoa with an initial focus on data management for European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance and risk management.
Over the next 6 months, we’re shipping production-grade compliance workflows: portal UX + APIs, traceability + geospatial services, auditability, and document ingestion & automation as a first-class module. This sits at the heart of the unified compliance operations vision we’re building with large commodity traders.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Product Manager to turn a complex set of compliance requirements, data constraints, and delivery commitments into a product that ships and gets adopted.
This is not a “write tickets and chase engineers” role. You’ll own the product backbone: scope, workflows, acceptance criteria, prioritisation, and the feedback loop with users. You’ll work daily with our CTO/engineering team, science/data leads, and delivery team to ensure we execute fast without losing correctness and auditability.
Responsibilities
- Own the product scope and delivery plan across the EUDR portal + services: user journeys, roles/permissions, and end-to-end workflows (submission, review, decision, evidence, audit trail).
- Translate regulatory + client requirements into clear product specs: boundaries, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and success metrics.
- Build and maintain the backlog with ruthless prioritisation: what ships now, what gets cut, what gets automated later.
- Drive discovery fast (interviews, shadowing, prototypes) and convert learnings into shippable increments.
- Align product, engineering, science/data, and delivery on a single execution rhythm (weekly goals, releases, demos, UAT readiness).
- Define “compliance-grade” quality: what must be deterministic, what can be probabilistic, and how we keep everything auditable.
- Own go-live readiness with the delivery team: UAT coordination, rollout plans, release notes, and support feedback loops.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong product fundamentals with a track record of shipping B2B products in complex domains (data platforms, workflow tools, enterprise SaaS).
- Comfort with technical and data-heavy systems: APIs, data models, integration patterns, and operational constraints.
- Ability to write clear specs that engineers and data teams trust (including edge cases and failure modes).
- Excellent prioritisation under time pressure. You can say “no”, cut scope, and still keep stakeholders aligned.
- You care about correctness and accountability (this is compliance, not “move fast and break things”).
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in regulated or audit-driven environments (finance, compliance, supply chain, risk).
- Familiarity with geospatial/traceability concepts or strong interest in learning fast.
- Experience with UAT, rollouts, and operating a product in production with real users.
What We Offer
- A high-impact role: you’ll shape the product that becomes the operating system for EUDR compliance teams.
- Remote-first, flexible team rituals, and real ownership.
- Competitive compensation and equity (early team).
- A company that values clarity over jargon, and delivery over theatre.
If you’re interested, share what you’ve shipped (resume and links welcome) and why it mattered to: [contact@sustaain.org](mailto:contact@sustaain.org) and get ready for no BS interviews followed shortly by hands-on integration in the team.
